Changing Seasons

It has been too long since I made a list of things for which I feel grateful.  It isn't hard to do this time of year.  I love the fickle days of early spring.  Sunshine and eager blossoms one day, gusty gales that chill to the bone the next.  The perfect season for a heart that is never quite ready to let go while simultaneously looking ahead tingling with anticipation.
For sunshine and blossoms, and wind that causes the branches high in the tall old oak trees out front to sway.  For first buds and hints of green replacing brown.  Clouds that float across the pale blue sky. For rain and the smell of the earth waking up. The first morning the sweet chirping of birds registers on my mind.  For all the hallmarks of an early spring day,  I am deeply thankful.

  1. This is lovely, May, I am so glad you've come to join us at the TToT this week! Being born and raised in the Midwest, I can remember these first signs of the impending change of seasons, how eagerly we awaited it knowing that there would still be more cold winter days to come, sometimes with snow making it's final appearance in late April! And yet we had our sleeveless Easter dresses and Spring coats and wore them happily, cold or warm! I too love the wind, the clouds, and the fresh smell of Spring rain. Here in West Texas where I live now, Spring tends to mean a lot of blowing dirt. :-/ I liked your comment about a heart that is never quite ready to let go while still anticipating what lies ahead, I think that is true for so many of us. Wishing you a beautiful Spring unfolding with all the promise that it holds!

    1. Oh, yes! Those Easter dresses were worn with pride no matter how much our bare knees knocked in the unexpected cold!

  2. Your post is poetic, May, and leaves me longing for the buds on the trees and the warmth in the air. Still pretty much winter in the NE - except for a couple of nice days for which I am truly grateful.

    1. We only got a couple of actual winter days. I miss the days of four distinct seasons each year.

  3. yeah, what they said!

    lol
    actually, I really liked:
"...perfect season for a heart that is never quite ready to let go while simultaneously looking ahead"
very much a perspective that a clark would be comfortable with*

*in that very odd definition of 'comfortable', of course lol

We are SO ready for spring here. Even Zilla said, "I'm really over winter, Mom. Come on spring!"
