We never had lights outlining the eaves of the house. There was no chimney for Santa to descend. We still set up a silver tinsel tree long after it was fashionable and laid gifts below it which were often wrapped in the funny papers. For many years we were tucked in two per bed while the sugarplums danced in our heads.
We didn't have much, yet lacked nothing. We had a home where the spirit of Christmas was very much alive. We shared tradition and gifts. We celebrated together, glad we were home for the holidays.
