Wisdom of the Jonquils

Yesterday was the first day the jonquils were in bloom.  I stood in the sunroom drinking a cup of hot tea admiring their fragile beauty.  Their sunny yellow blooms looked so delicate.
Overnight we experienced the gambit of weather.  I was awakened by a hail storm that rattled the windows along with my nerves.  Hail gave way to rain and I drifted back to sleep.  This morning we awoke to snow cover.
Looking out the window at the white lawn my mind traveled to the jonquils out back and I feared the worst.  I threw on some clothes and headed to the sunroom preparing myself to find them battered and destroyed. How could those delicate blooms survive the storm I wondered.  And there was my answer.  How could they survive the storm?  With heads bowed.

Written in 2012.  Shared again to celebrate the arrival of spring.

  1. Every year, those little bulbs wait and wait and WAIT for the right time to pop out of the ground. A little bit of snow isn't going to stop them from doing their job!

  2. Lovely sentiment. None of the pictures came through for me - but I understand the visual being familiar with Jonquils. Love the look of your blog now. I'm wondering if you've been writing and I've been missing posts now. I was JUST thinking of you the other day and the fact that it has been a while since I've had your writing come through my feed. Am off to do some investigating.

  3. Somehow when the wordpress site closed down any photos that were on both sites disappeared from this one. So annoying.
