The gift of one's heart is at once the most elemental and elaborate gift one can offer. In offering one's heart all vulnerability is laid bare. A leap of faith is made; faith in another human being. Those people in life who have disappointed me the most are those who have proved themselves unworthy of the trust placed in them by those who have given their hearts earnestly. It is an awesome responsibility to hold another's heart. Not all are up to the task.
( What an odd Valentine post. It has just been that kind of year. I am feeling a primal protectiveness of the vulnerable these days. I guess that carries over into matters of the heart as well.)
