A little bird told me that summer is almost here and it made me feel so thankful...
Because someone really needs to put this school year out of its misery.
Because as much as I love other people's kids, I can not wait to spend time with my own...like a lot of time with my own.
Summer brings summer activities...
Gardening
Staying up late
And for the first time since I quit as the Children's Director at my church in 2012, they are finally hosting a good, old-fashioned Vacation Bible School (which is giving me the chance to do something with the artsy side of my brain as I am creating caves and cave dwelling creatures to transform the church for a spelunking adventure!)
The cherries are turning red and the apple and potato crops both look especially promising this year.
For some reason, the older I get the more I enjoy acting as though I am a gentlewoman farmer. I don't get it, but I know it happened to my parents and my father-in-law as well so I am just going to roll with it.
May this be the shortest week of the year! Bring on Memorial Day!
Yay for summer vacation! When my kids were young and at home, I used to say that from the time the screen door slammed as they walked in the door on the last day of school - they were mine! Gloriously mine! I relate to the farmer bend - I think as we age we get closer and closer to the earth and nature and her seasons and rhythm.
ReplyDeleteOh, Barb, as always our minds work so similarly. As soon as I can wrap things up at work I have a post to write about aging and the seasons.
DeleteHappy summer, May. Hope our weather gets the memo soon. I think we go back to the earth and the beauty it provides as we age. (Just looked up, Barbara said the same thing). Gardening brings circles of life closer to us. Have a short week and a long weekend.
ReplyDeleteHurrah for the long weekend. I will enjoy every minute of it! Hope you do too.
DeleteI wonder if it patience or appreciation we develop for growing things as we age. Either way, I find myself feeling the same. I do love a short week - it makes the weekend come so fast that it's almost a happy surprise.
ReplyDeleteIt must be appreciation because I feel like my patience has evaporated lately!
DeleteBut what happened to Spring? LOL Yes, seems summer is fast approaching!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on staying up late and gardening. Great perks of summer:)
I've pretty much always enjoyed gardening but didn't really get into it until my "later" years either. I like what Val said about the circles of life.
Hope the week flies for you May!
The first way I learned to love gardening was walking on summer evenings with my parents' through theirs. Oh, how I miss those days and those gardeners!
DeleteMy Zilla loves Vacation Bible School. Sounds like you are looking forward to having fun with yours!
ReplyDeleteWe are on the way to a FIVE day weekend for Memorial Day. Bring on the unofficial start of summer!
I know this year has actually flown by, but boy-oh-boy Memorial Weekend feels a long time coming!
DeleteSummer means time can slow to a more relaxed pace. I love cherries and apples and peas in July.
ReplyDeleteFresh garden peas. Oh, yum! That is a memory that transports me.
